iPhone snooze not working or missing? 6 causes and fixes
If the snooze button on your iPhone alarm has vanished, does nothing, or snoozes for the wrong amount of time, it's almost always a per-alarm setting rather than a bug. Snooze is switched on or off per alarm in the Clock app, sleep-schedule alarms handle it differently, and iOS 26 changed both the alarm screen and how long a snooze lasts.
Here's each cause and its fix, most common first.
Quick answer: open Clock → Alarms → tap the alarm → check the Snooze toggle is on and the Snooze Duration is what you expect. If your "alarm" is the Sleep | Wake Up one at the top of the list, its snooze lives in the sleep schedule settings instead. Third-party alarm apps may have no snooze at all — by design.
1. Snooze is turned off for that alarm
Every Clock alarm has its own Snooze switch, and it's easy to flip while editing the time or sound. When it's off, the alarm shows only a Stop control and no snooze anywhere.
Fix: Clock → Alarms → tap the alarm → Snooze → on. Check each alarm separately; turning it on for one doesn't change the others.
2. The snooze length isn't what you expected
iOS 26 replaced the fixed nine-minute snooze with a per-alarm Snooze Duration you can set between 1 and 15 minutes. If your alarm "snoozed for the wrong time," it's usually because the duration got changed when the alarm was edited — or because a different alarm with a different duration was the one that rang.
Fix: Clock → Alarms → tap the alarm → Snooze Duration. Nine minutes is still the default on new alarms; older alarms keep whatever was set.
3. You stopped it, you didn't snooze it
On iOS 26 the alarm screen is a slide to stop control with a separate Snooze button. Half-asleep, it's common to slide when you meant to tap — the alarm ends, no snooze happens, and you wake up an hour later convinced snooze failed. This is the most common "snooze didn't work" story, and no setting fixes it.
If this is your pattern, note that stopping an alarm from bed is the underlying problem, not the button layout — more on that at the end.
4. It's a sleep-schedule alarm
The Sleep | Wake Up alarm at the top of the Alarms tab isn't a regular alarm. It has its own snooze setting, sound and volume, all edited inside the sleep schedule (Clock → Alarm tab → the Sleep | Wake Up section → Change), not on the alarm itself. If you looked for the Snooze toggle and couldn't find it, that's why.
Fix: open the sleep schedule settings and turn snooze on there — or, for a heavy sleeper, add a regular alarm at the same time and let the sleep-schedule one be the gentle first nudge.
5. The alarm came from a third-party app
Many alarm apps deliberately have no snooze; some have a snooze that only works when the app is open, and some lose it if the app was force-quit overnight. If the alarm that rang wasn't Apple's Clock, snooze behaves however that app decided — check its own settings, and read Alarmy alarm not going off if it's a mission-style app that has started misbehaving.
6. The alarm timed out
An iPhone alarm rings for about 15 minutes and then stops on its own. It does not snooze itself — it just ends. If you slept through the ringing and woke up to silence, snooze never came into it. How long does an iPhone alarm ring has the full timeline.
Should you even want snooze?
Here's the uncomfortable part. Every cause above is about getting snooze back, and for most people who search this, snooze is the reason they're late. Each snooze drops you toward deeper sleep, so the third alarm feels worse than the first, and the button is always within reach of a hand that isn't awake yet. How to stop snoozing goes through the habit side.
WakeUpBroo takes the option away entirely. There's no snooze and no dismiss button — the alarm stops only when you type a rotating code from wakeupbroo.com/code on a laptop or another device across the room. Nothing to tap, nothing to slide, and by the time you've walked over and typed it, you're up. If snooze not working turned out to be the best thing that happened to your morning, that's the version that keeps it that way.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Why is there no snooze button on my iPhone alarm?
Snooze is a per-alarm setting. Open Clock → Alarms → tap the alarm and check the Snooze toggle. If the alarm is the Sleep | Wake Up one at the top of the list, its snooze is set inside the sleep schedule instead.
How long is snooze on iPhone?
Nine minutes by default. Since iOS 26 each alarm has its own Snooze Duration, adjustable from 1 to 15 minutes, so alarms edited at different times can snooze for different lengths.
Why did my alarm stop instead of snoozing?
On iOS 26 the alarm screen uses slide to stop with a separate Snooze button. Sliding when you meant to tap ends the alarm completely — the most common reason snooze appears not to have worked.
Is there an iPhone alarm with no snooze at all?
Yes. WakeUpBroo has no snooze and no dismiss button; it stops only when you type a rotating code from wakeupbroo.com/code on a device across the room, so the alarm cannot be silenced from bed.
Or get rid of snooze for good.
WakeUpBroo has no snooze and no dismiss button. It stops only when you type a rotating code from this website on a device across the room.
