How to turn off an alarm on iPhone: one, all, or just tomorrow's
Turning off an iPhone alarm means four different things depending on what you need: stopping one that's ringing right now, switching an alarm off without deleting it, getting rid of it for good, or skipping it for a single morning. Here's each one, for iOS 26 and iOS 27.
Quick answer: to stop a ringing alarm, slide to stop on the Lock Screen (tap Snooze for nine more minutes). To turn an alarm off but keep it, open Clock → Alarms and tap the switch next to it. To delete it, swipe left and tap Delete. The Sleep | Wake Up alarm is different — it's turned off from the sleep schedule, and you can skip just the next one.
Stop an alarm that's ringing
On the Lock Screen, slide to stop. Since iOS 26.1, Stop is a slide rather than a tap, with Snooze as a separate button — Apple made the change after iOS 26's side-by-side buttons led to a lot of accidental dismissals.
If you'd rather have a single tap to stop, iOS has an accessibility option for that: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Prefer Single-Touch Actions. (If you don't see it, your version doesn't have it.)
What about the side and volume buttons? Apple doesn't document this, and the behaviour has changed between versions — on some, a button press snoozes; on others it only mutes the sound. Don't rely on a button press to stop an alarm until you've tried it on your own phone.
On Apple Watch: tap Snooze or Dismiss on the screen. In Nightstand mode, press the side button to turn the alarm off or the Digital Crown to snooze.
If you do nothing, an iPhone alarm doesn't ring forever — it stops on its own after a while. How long, and what happens next, is in how long does an iPhone alarm ring.
Turn off an alarm without deleting it
- Open Clock and tap Alarms.
- Tap the switch next to the alarm's time so it goes grey.
It stays in your list, ready to switch back on. A one-time alarm also switches itself off after it rings — so if you find one turned off that you didn't touch, it fired.
Delete an alarm
- Open Clock → Alarms.
- Swipe left on the alarm and tap Delete.
Or tap Edit, tap the alarm, and choose Delete Alarm at the bottom.
Turn off all alarms at once
The Clock app has no "turn off all" button — you switch each one off individually. Siri is the shortcut people use: ask "Turn off all my alarms" to switch them all off, or "Delete all my alarms", which asks you to confirm first. Neither touches the Sleep | Wake Up alarm, which has its own controls below.
Skip an alarm for just one day
Regular Clock alarms have no skip option. To skip a repeating alarm for one morning, switch it off tonight and remember to switch it back on — or set a one-time alarm for the days you do want and leave the repeating one off.
The Sleep | Wake Up alarm can be skipped once:
- Open Clock → Alarms and, next to Sleep | Wake Up, tap Change.
- Under Alarm Options, turn off Alarm and tap Done.
- Choose Change Next Alarm Only. (Change This Schedule would turn it off every day.)
Your normal wake-up alarm comes back after that morning. On Apple Watch, the same thing is Alarms → tap the wake-up alarm → Skip for Tonight.
Turn off the Sleep | Wake Up alarm for good
This alarm belongs to the Health app's sleep schedule, which is why it doesn't behave like your other alarms.
- Keep the sleep schedule, lose the alarm: in Health → Browse → Sleep → Full Schedule & Options, edit the schedule and turn off Alarm.
- Turn off the whole sleep schedule: in the same place, turn off Sleep Schedule. This turns off every schedule and its alarm.
- Shortcut from Clock: tap Change next to Sleep | Wake Up, then Edit Sleep Schedule in Health.
If this is the alarm that's been mysteriously quiet or ringing on your watch, Sleep Focus alarm not going off explains why.
Third-party alarm apps
Apps built on Apple's alarm system in iOS 26 and later show a full-screen alert like the Clock app's, with buttons the app chooses, and can show a countdown on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. Switching one of their alarms off or deleting it happens inside that app — those alarms don't appear in the Clock app's list.
If you're turning alarms off without meaning to
Some people search this for the opposite reason: they keep finding their alarm switched off in the morning with no memory of doing it. A one-time alarm that's off fired and was dismissed — very likely by you, half-asleep. That's a real and common thing, and it has its own explanation: why you turn off alarms in your sleep.
The fix for that one isn't a setting. It's an alarm you can't turn off from bed. WakeUpBroo has no snooze and no dismiss button: it stops only when you type a rotating code from wakeupbroo.com/code on a laptop or other device across the room. Every other alarm on this page takes one slide to stop. That one takes standing up.
